Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication: The Anaheim Owner’s Guide
Mighty Mule welding and fabrication work in Anaheim typically runs $145 to $620 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing a cracked gate bracket, rebuilding a hinge post, or fabricating a custom mounting plate for an FM series arm. Most Mighty Mule welding jobs are completed same-day when we have the part on the truck, and we stock the most common mounting hardware for FM350, FM500, and MM series openers. You’ll usually discover you have a fabrication problem when the gate starts sagging, the opener arm pulls loose from the post, or you hear a metal-on-metal groan every time the gate cycles. The written price is in your hand before any weld is struck.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
We fabricate and weld for every Mighty Mule swing gate opener line still in service across Anaheim: the FM135, FM145, FM350, FM500, and the newer MM series. The older FM135 and FM145 units use a two-piece mounting bracket with a simple pin joint, and those brackets crack at the bolt holes after years of torque loading. The FM350 and FM500 use a heavier pivot bracket that we often see bent, not cracked, especially on gates near Anaheim’s windier foothill streets where the gate catches a full broadside gust. The MM series changed the bracket geometry slightly, so a bracket from an FM350 will not bolt cleanly to an MM260 without modification.
When we identify your part, we look for two things: the model label on the control box and the distance between the two bolt holes on the bracket casting. Mighty Mule used at least three different hole-spacing patterns across their production runs, and guessing wrong means an hour of grinding on a brand-new bracket. For OEM versus aftermarket, the honest answer is this: Mighty Mule’s OEM brackets are powder-coated and acceptable, but several of the aftermarket steel brackets available through distributor channels are thicker gauge and hold up better to the UV and salt air that eat hardware across Anaheim. We’ll show you both and tell you which one we’d put on our own gate.
We are an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Mighty Mule, and we don’t pretend to be. We just fix their hardware when it fails.
Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

- The gate sags visibly at the hinge end. A cracked or wallowed-out hinge weld lets the gate leaf drop, which then throws the opener arm out of alignment and puts a side load on the operator that it was never designed to carry. The longer it runs like this, the more parts fail downstream.
- The opener arm pulls loose from the post bracket. The bracket bolts are usually fine; what fails is the weld that holds the bracket base to the post, especially on thin-wall steel posts that were never meant to take cyclic loading. We see this most often on gates installed in Anaheim’s tract-home neighborhoods, where the original gate posts are lighter gauge.
- A groan or creak on every open and close cycle. That’s metal flexing under load, and it means a weld is cracked through or a bracket is moving against its mounting surface. By the time you can hear it from the driveway, the crack has usually propagated far enough that it can’t be welded safely without grinding it out completely first.
- The gate bounces or vibrates as it travels. A loose pivot or a broken weld at the hinge allows the gate leaf to oscillate, which transmits vibration straight into the opener’s gearbox and shortens the motor’s life. The Mighty Mule operator is tough, but it wasn’t designed to compensate for a hinge that’s no longer doing its job.
- The opener arm is visibly angled or out of plane with the gate. If the arm was parallel when it was installed and now it points uphill or downhill, the mount has moved. That movement always traces back to a weld or a bracket that’s failed, and running the opener in that condition bends the arm over time.
Before
AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Installed prices for Mighty Mule welding and fabrication in Anaheim break down like this:
- Hinge weld repair on a steel gate: $145 to $260, including grinding out the old material, re-welding, and reinforcing the hinge plate if needed.
- Post bracket fabrication and weld: $180 to $310, including cutting a new plate to match your post dimensions and drilling to your Mighty Mule’s bolt pattern.
- Custom mounting plate for an FM350 or FM500 arm: $220 to $420, fabricated in-house to the exact offset your gate requires.
- Full hinge replacement with new greasable hinges and welded post mounts: $390 to $620, parts and labor included.
The range is driven by three things: how much of the old weld has to be ground out before we can lay clean material down, how thick the existing post steel is, and whether the gate has to be lifted and re-hung to restore alignment. Every quote includes the fabrication, the weld work, paint or corrosion treatment on the repaired area, and a photo record of the finished job under Haven Standard Clause 4. The price we write down before we start is the price you pay when we’re done. No multipliers, no “we found extra work” conversations.
DIY or Call Us?

Here’s what’s safe for an owner to check: whether the bracket bolts are tight, whether the gate swings freely by hand with the opener disengaged, and whether there’s visible cracking you can see from the ground. Chasing those down yourself is reasonable. What’s not reasonable is welding on a gate post that’s supporting a live gate leaf. If the weld fails while the gate is moving, you have several hundred pounds of steel under gravity and momentum, and a Mighty Mule opener that will keep pushing against a twisting gate until something bends or someone gets hurt. Welding is also a different animal on galvanized steel; the fumes from burning zinc will put you on the ground faster than you’d believe. If you’ve found a crack or a broken bracket, call us at (657) 567-5799 and we’ll give you a written price before any work happens. Adrian Vance grew up watching his uncle rewire intercoms in Queens apartment buildings, and the habit of noticing what’s about to fail before it fails never left him. We bring that same eye to every Mighty Mule bracket and hinge we see in Anaheim.
FAQs
A correctly welded hinge on a gate that’s properly hung and not overloaded typically lasts 8 to 15 years, though Anaheim’s UV and occasional marine-layer salt air will shorten that if the weld isn’t coated or the gate holds water at the hinge point. The failure we see most often isn’t the weld itself but the original factory coating breaking down around it, which lets rust start at the seam and travel underneath over the years.
Sometimes, but a cracked bolt-hole bracket on a Mighty Mule opener is usually a replacement, not a repair, because the casting around the bolt hole is too thin to weld without distortion, and the heat changes the temper of the metal around it. When the crack is in a plate or hinge weld rather than a bolt hole, welding is often the right call, and we’ll tell you which one applies to your part before you spend a dollar.
A typical hinge weld repair or bracket fabrication takes 60 to 90 minutes on site, though a full hinge replacement with gate re-hanging runs two to three hours. If you’re in Anaheim and we have the part on the truck, we can usually complete the job same-day; if we’re fabricating a custom plate to match a non-standard post, we’ll build it in the shop and return within one to two business days.
Yes, we keep the most common Mighty Mule FM350, FM500, and MM series mounting brackets, pivot pins, and aftermarket bracket plates on our Anaheim service vehicles, along with our welding equipment. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing openers, so we can match whatever motor is on the property without making you wait for a shipment. Call (657) 567-5799 and we’ll tell you in five minutes whether your part is on hand.
